Things worth putting together.
A smartphone, a mobile network, a wind turbine: three interactive infographics where you build the thing yourself, piece by piece, and learn what each part does as it clicks into place. Free, and right in your browser.
Device
Build a Smartphone
Assemble a phone, part by part.
Ever wondered what is actually inside your phone? Place all seven components in order (battery, motherboard, cameras, speaker and the OLED display) and watch it come together. Tap any part to read how it works, or hit Explode to see exactly where everything sits inside the case.
Network
Build a Mobile Network
Connect the call, handset to core.
How does a call reach your phone in a fraction of a second? Assemble the whole chain (radio spectrum, base station, backhaul, switching, databases and the core network) in the order a signal actually travels. Place each part to reveal what it does and how the pieces hand off to one another.
Energy
Build a Wind Turbine
Raise a turbine, then make it spin.
Construct a turbine from the foundation up (seventeen real parts, placed the way engineers build them on site). When the last blade goes on, switch to the live simulation: drag the wind-speed slider, watch the rotor turn, and read the power it makes. A single 3 MW turbine can power around 9,000 homes.
